JUNO Award Nominated Artists Silverstein & The Trews To Take The Stage

Toronto, ON – Today, Soundbox Productions and Skware Eyes Collaborative are excited to launch a new drive in series – Live At The Drive-In in Ancaster, ON., the biggest of its kind in Canada. The Ancaster Fairgrounds and the Live At The Drive In concert series will play host to a number of events throughout the fall of 2020, including the recently announced concert with Southern Ontario hard rock band and JUNO Award nominated, Silverstein on Friday, September 25 and JUNO Award nominated, chart toppers The Trews on Saturday, October 3.

“As a production company that saw an immediate stop to business, this series gave us the opportunity to bring staff back to work, provide some revenue for artists, and ultimately help our industry through an early first step of recovery,” said Colin Moore, Soundbox Productions. “It won’t solve all the problems, but we’re putting our best foot forward to be a part of the solution”

“We are so excited to get back on stage in a such a cool environment! The live streams have been super fun, but of course there’s nothing like playing in front of people. We’re pulling out all the stops for this one, massive production including multiple cameras and 40 foot screens, and our sound mixed on the best available state of the art equipment piped directly into your cars FM radio, said Shane Told, Silverstien. “Grab your friends, pile in your car, bring snacks, and attempt a circle pit in the back seat!  It’s going to be so much fun, and such a unique event.”

Being a band of our vintage we thought that all of our “firsts” were behind us but, lo and behold, 2020 had other plans! We had our first ever drive-in show a couple of weeks ago and we were very pleasantly surprised! The vibes were incredible! It seems that people are more than ready to let a little rock’n’roll back in to their lives (in a safe and socially distanced way, of course),” said John-Angus MacDonald from The Trews. “And it turns out that horns are much louder than hands – the noise coming back at us between songs was immense and the excitement was palpable! We’re thrilled to be bringing the drive in experience to our adopted hometown of Hamilton on October 3rd!”

In this unprecedented time, Live At The Drive-In is thrilled to be bringing live music, and other special events to Ontario. Touted as Canada’s largest Drive-In Concert Experience, the grounds are without question the largest space for an outdoor show in Canada so far. The ability to host hundreds of cars, while maintaining adequate social distancing makes the grounds are perfectly set up for these shows.

Tour Bus Productions deserves a lot of credit here. They started doing their backyard sessions and proved that audiences were ready to connect with artists in a safe way. When we all met about a month ago, this idea came to life. We wanted to do something on a fairly big scale and be a source of hope for our industry,” said Rian Malloch, Skware Eyes Collaborative. “Ultimately, this partnership with Soundbox is about the artists, and the fans. It’s different, maybe even a bit weird, but it’s awesome to see hundreds of people getting an opportunity to work.”

For the past two decades, Silverstein, an Ontario-based five-piece from their underground roots became one of the most influential bands in their scene, playing two thousand-plus shows all over the globe, and selling over a million records. Now Silverstein are celebrating their 20th anniversary with the release of their 9th, and perhaps strongest album to date: A Beautiful Place To Drown.

With multiple radio hits drawn from six scorching studio albums plus several EPs, a pair of live records, and a retrospective, The Trews are among the most prolific, electrifying, and innovative rock bands on the planet, a fact corroborated by onetime stage-mates the Rolling Stones, Weezer, and Bruce Springsteen. The Nova Scotia-bred, Hamilton, ON-based combo of singer/guitarist Colin MacDonald, guitarist John-Angus MacDonald, bassist Jack Syperek, and drummer Chris Gormley — songwriters all — has won universal acclaim for both their dazzling live performances and wildly accessible songs.
