INTERVIEW MITCH ZORN HOME

Hamilton’s Rock and Country Magazine

Mitch Zorn

1. Can you share the story behind “Home”? What inspired you to write it, and what does the song mean to you personally?
A) Yeah I lived in Texas for a few years and was travelling between Texas and Nashville quite a bit for work and trying to write songs, and this is a song that came from that experience having to leave your loved ones and travel to make a living and all the struggles that come with that

2. What was it like working with THE RENAISSANCE (Dan Botch and Garrett Ward) on this track? How did their production influence the final sound of “Home”?
A) it’s been great. I love those guys, they’re an integral part of my team now and they’ve always been able to execute my vision of what I want my songs and sound to be.

3. You’ve described “Home” as a full circle moment in your journey. How has returning to your hometown after ten years influenced your music and personal life?
A) It’s definitely a change of pace. It’s funny to see all the good things happening in my career now, radio play, streams, a deal etc. happening from here. I still hang out with the same friends I’ve known my whole life, and I always talked about moving back so it’s cool to be putting out this album from here.

4. How have your frequent trips to Nashville shaped your music and career? Any memorable experiences or lessons learned from those trips?
A) I mean I’ve been travelling to Nashville since I was 19 and just putting myself in that world and trying to learn how to write songs and be a country singer, I think it has benefited my career immensely. As far as stories go, one time I drank whiskey at losers with Jon Pardi, that guy is awesome.

5. Can you give us a sneak peek into your forthcoming album? What can fans expect in terms of themes and musical style?
A) I think we mix a good blend of country, rock and soul elements. A lot of these songs were written in the south and I think that definitely shows.

6. You’re set to perform at several shows this summer, including Sunfest Country Music Festival. What can fans expect from your live performances?
A) a good mix of upbeat, down home country music, some rock and pop elements.

7. Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound and songwriting?
A) All time I would say Eric Church, Sam Hunt and John Mayer. I listen to so much music that it’s hard to choose but if I had to I would say those are the top three. I think it’s definitely where I get some of my country/rock inspiration.

8. What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are looking to break into the industry, especially those coming from small towns like Nakusp?
A) You gotta want it. It’s not gonna happen overnight and a lot of people are gonna tell you you’re crazy, but just do what you love, chase the things you love and it will work out one way or another.
