Interview with Jordyn Pollard By Tammy Ann Chapman

Some of the most successful musicians in the world have found a way to stay true to their roots as they refine their craft.

One amazing example of an artist who stays true to her roots even as she has evolved and transitioned into other musical genres is Taylor Swift.

For rising country star Jordyn Pollard, she’s taking a cue from Miss Swift.

Upon first hearing her music, fans are reminded nostalgically of Taylor’s earlier days. Before “Reputation” and “Bad Blood”.

If you enjoyed T-Swift’s earlier music you will not be disappointed with Pollard’s new album.

Jordyn is a hidden gem that won’t stay hidden for long. Her music infuses the charm and positivity that the world really needs right now.

With a contagious pop/country sound, she’s considered one to watch out for.

She was awarded SCMA 2020 Emerging Artist of the Year and it’s no wonder. With songs like “Good On Me” and “Back To Us” (Top 50 Country Songs on the Billboard Canada Chart) Jordyn is just getting started and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for this talented young singer/songwriter.

We had the chance to get to know Jordyn better and here is what she had to say:

  1. Tell us your story … how did you get into the music industry and why did you choose country?

I’ve been a country music fan my whole life! The local country station was always playing in the car growing up and still is. Pop music has also made an impact on me as I fell in love with movies and show such as The Lizzie McGuire Movie and Hannah Montana at a really young age. I’d perform concerts to Hilary, Miley, Shania, and Taylor songs all the time! I started performing live at a young age through voice recitals and open mic nights! I truly began adopting my passion for music into a career when I was around 14 or 15 and began traveling across Alberta and Saskatchewan to share my music.

  1. Have you found any challenges along the way? If so, which has been the hardest to overcome and why?

I think the Covid restrictions have been the toughest challenge of my career thus far. Being away from my music family as well as performing for my fans has been super difficult! However, I am finding comfort in knowing we’re all facing the same pandemic and I’m not alone!

  1. Is there a musician who inspires you the most? If so, who?

Taylor Swift has definitely had the biggest impact on me and my music career. I really respect her as a businesswoman and she goes out of her way to her gratitude towards her fans. She’s always doing bigger and better things and I love that she’s in her own path to success!

  1. Your new song Back to Us has gained a lot of attention and a growing fanbase. What can your fans expect from you in the future?

My fans can expect more music! Quarantine has allowed me to write some songs and discuss a new album with my manager and producer! Although I’m not performing live as much, I’m constantly thinking of new things to release into the world!

  1. Do you have a song that you’re working on that you’re absolutely excited about?

I have so many songs that I’m excited about! I am currently working on perfecting a song that I wrote with my good friend Doug Sylvester a couple of months ago!

6. If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why?

I would absolutely love to collaborate with Ed Sheeran! He’s such a crazy songwriter and musician. Plus, he seems like he’d be a pretty cool guy to hang with!

  1. How have you been managing through COVID times?

It’s definitely been tough, but the entire world is feeling its effects and we are all in this together! There’s definitely a lot of fear and anxiety not only in regards to health and the world but in terms of my career! I have a great support system and team to help me through my anxious moments. I’m very lucky!

  1. With Christmas just around the corner what are you looking forward to the most?

I’m looking forward to seeing my family (if restrictions allow!) I think the joy of the holidays is what so many need. The Christmas season is my favourite time of year!

  1. If you could have anything you wanted for Christmas what would it be?

A CURE FOR COVID! I think anyone can agree with that!
