Interview with Teigen Gayse By Tammy Ann Chapman

2020 has been a year of transformation, many lives have been changed due to the current COVID-19 situation and the music industry is no exception.

As concerts and festivals have come to a sudden standstill, many musicians are leaning solely on Social Media and Live Streaming their performances in order to be able to connect with their fans and share their music.

Rising country music star Teigen Gayse hasn’t let the changing times create any obstacles for doing what she loves and sharing it with the world.

Her latest single “Don’t Look Back” off of her self-titled EP has been a buzz on the Canadian Country Music Scene since it’s April release.

We had the chance to talk to Teigen about her new song and album.

What made you decide to focus on country music?

I love all genres of music, for me if it has a good melody, a good catch then I’m in. I don’t know why country music called me. Probably because it’s the most honest music you can find out there. For the most part it’s very raw and real and I love that in a song.

If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why?

Such a tough one. I love so many artists for so many different reasons but at this moment I would have to say Liz Rose. she co wrote Taylor Swift’s first album and that was one of the album’s that got me into songwriting so I’d have to say her.

Tell us the inspiration behind your record and new track “Don’t Look Back”?

The Inspiration behind my Record was “may be best song win” there wasn’t a chapter to this album like you see with some artists. Eventually I’m going to get there but I wanted to put out my best 8 songs me and my producer thought I had. I’ve written so much since then and I can’t wait for the next one. Don’t look back is a special track for me because I’m so used to writing about relationships, and this song can appeal to everyone in the world no matter what and I was very proud of myself for that.

What can your fans expect to hear from the rest of your album?

My Album is my life.. I write according to the things I feel and experience in a day and I hope that people out there in the world can relate and not feel alone, or just feel something at all. Music is such an emotional feeling and I experience that best through a good melody so I hope that’s what fans feel when they hear my songs because that is the ultimate goal

As festivals and concerts have come to a standstill due to COVID-19, how do you plan on bringing your music to your fans over the coming months?

This is a time to be innovative and creative. Virtual Lives are a great source of communication right now, and I’ve been keeping up with that but just keeping engaged with my audience and finding a way to expand it in the midst of all this is my goal. When venues start back up again, me and my album are still gonna be here, stronger than ever and ready to put on a show, and I can’t wait for that

Once everything returns to normal, what are you looking forward to the most?

Honestly.. Hugging people. I can’t wait to tackle my friends and not feel awkward about it. I obviously can’t wait to play shows.. It’s my passion and I just released my first ever Debut Album but i’m going to jump on a few people first and squeeze them till they pass out. OH MY GOSH.. I can’t wait to go out for brunch again also, i’m a big brunch girl

If you could tour with anyone who would choose and why?

This changes on the daily.. First it was Taylor Swift, then it was Brad Paisley, then it was Parker MCollum, then it was Old Dominion, then George Strait and now its Flatland Calvary.. But of course King George is still NUMBER 1

Do you have any advice for anyone looking to get into the country music scene?

Don’t give up.. Patience is a virtue and you got to give it your all and believe in yourself. Talk to as many people as possible, get out there and take chances. A lot of it is who you know and not what you know. Be great, be smart and be YOU, there is no other you out there.
