INTERVIEW with Andrew Hyatt By Tammy Chapman

Hamilton’s Rock and Country Magazine Interview

Andrew Hyatt

Q: Let’s start by telling your fans a little bit about you. Who is Andrew Hyatt and what inspired you to get into the country music scene?

A:  I’m a singer-songwriter who’s spent the last decade working towards creating music I love first and foremost. Luckily for me, I’ve been able to continue to consistently create all these years. I’m not sure what first drew me to country music but as far back as I can remember I listened to it.

Q: Tell us about your passion for cinematography and the inspiration behind the music video?

I’ve directed many music videos, the most recent series of them are all based on the concept of how time changes us. Be it through heartbreak, love, and all other experiences. In the “Finding Firsts” video we used a mix of wild horses and horses being broken as symbolism for how relationships can sort of tame you from your once wild ways, but then when it’s over, you’re left changed forever.

Q: What was it like working with Derek Hoffman and how did you two come to be?
A: Derek and I have known each other since 2012 I believe? We went to Indie music production together at Seneca. Working with him is also very easy and he always understands the goal and what that sounds like in my brain.

Q: You’ve accomplished so much in your music career in just a short frame of time, which 3 stand out to you the most?
A: I would have to say playing at the Blue Bird, touring arenas with Dallas Smith, and being nominated for Album of the Year last year.

Q: If you could work with anyone in the music industry, who would it be and why?

A:  Dave Cobb because he has produced some of my favourite records of all time.

Q: What is the inspiration behind “L Is For”?

A: I wrote this whole EP about my divorce. The song “L is For” itself is about how a person can come and change the meaning of things for you forever… for better or worse.

Q: Despite all of your incredible success, is there anything missing? Something you haven’t achieved yet but are working towards right now?
A:  My goal is to play forever, so it’s going to take a while to reach it.😂

Q: What message would you like to share with your fans as you gear up to release your new music?
A: Thanks for coming along for the ride! Make sure you grab tickets to the Mixtape Tour across Canada! More information at https://www.countrymixtapetour.com/.
